LRCO Update: Friedman Property aka Ackerly Lane Office Building

If you weren’t at the last civic meeting, you missed an update on the Planning Board hearing for the proposed office building on Ackerly Lane near Portion Road. Dawn Hopkins, civic vice president attended and provided the following summary:

Numerous hearings have been scheduled and held on this application to build a dental practice facility on Ackerly Lane. Local residents have turned out in opposition to the development at each hearing.

Given the grading of the land and the size (2 stories) of the building, occupants of the new building would look directly into a neighbor's kitchen. There is a concern about adequate parking with neighbors worrying about people parking on the surrounding streets of Ackerly and Conway.

The Civic is also concerned with the encroachment of commercial business into residential neighborhoods. The Land Use Plan, developed by the community and the Town of Brookhaven, specifically underscores that commercial business belongs on Portion Road not in residential areas. Towards that, 66 neighbors in the Ackerly community signed a petition against this building being placed on a residential block.

The application has been placed on the Planning Board's decision calendar for March 21st.
