2016 Brookhaven Road Paving Update

Road paving is one of the most visible services we get from Brookhaven Town. The Civic has been working with the Town to raise awareness about the state of the roads in our community and increase transparency about paving plans.
Road paving is one of the most visible services we get from Brookhaven Town. The Civic has been working with the Town to raise awareness about the state of the roads in our community and increase transparency about paving plans.

This issue was discussed during the Meet the Candidates Night discussion at the Civic in October 2015.  Highway Superintendent Losquadro advised the community that he would share paving information with local civic associations. We’ve since been advised by Councilmen LaValle and Foley that the Highway Department would
NOT provide this information. We then requested data through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and are sharing a subset of it here (the town's response included 28 pages of documents, essentially  "paving memos"):

There are four documents included in this e-mail:

  • Page 12 of the FOIA response:  this pertains to Lake Ronkonkoma
  • Page 16 of the FOIA response:  this pertains to Farmingville
  • A summary of the FOIA response by Council District. Most of the civic's members reside in either CD3 or CD.  Councilman LaValle represents CD3. Councilman Foley represents CD5.
  • A summary of the FOIA response by council district and hamlets within the council districts.
In addition, on June 30 the Town Board approved a resolution providing the requisite funding to pave Hawkins Avenue from Portion Road to Division Street (the southern portion). This is not reflected in the paving memos but is consistent with Councilman LaValle’s comments about Lake Ronkonkoma downtown revitalization during the June 9 LRCO General Membership meeting.

Please continue to share your paving concerns with the Civic as well as directly with your Councilman and Highway Superintendent Losquadro. The Civic will continue to work with the Town to ensure our roads get the attention they need and we deserve.

Note that any potholes should be reported to 451-TOWN for prompt attention. They are treated by the Town quite differently than paving projects.
