Commerdinger County Park Info

If you weren’t in attendance at the November general meeting of the civic, you missed a fantastic presentation on the Commerdinger County Park. This jewel of a park is right in our backyard, on the border of Lake Ronkonkoma and Nesconset. Please click on the link below for more information on the park and the Commerdinger Preservation Society which is in partnership with Suffolk County in preserving these 100 acres of green space, of which there are few remaining in our area.

Paul Albert, the chairman of the Commerdinger Preservation Society, engaged us in the history of the historic house, built in 1810, and its various owners throughout the years and how they were intertwined in local history as well as U.S. history. There are many walking trails throughout the property where one can enjoy the peacefulness of the forest and the wetlands. Dogs are welcome as well.

However, the Preservation Society is challenged by the lack of attention by Suffolk County in keeping the historic house safe from vandals. It isn’t clear if this is due to a lack of funding or lack of interest; regardless, without intervention and protection, this historic house is at risk of being destroyed by either fire or neglect. Please contact your local county legislator to ask that they provide the needed services to ensure the historic house and park will be preserved for many years to come:
