LRCO Update: Suffolk County Alarm Management Program

If you weren’t at the last civic meeting, you missed a briefing on this program by Jeff Kagan, civic treasurer:

Suffolk County passed legislation last year requiring residents and business with central alarm systems to obtain permits from the Suffolk County Policy Department by April 1, 2016. A brief brochure was recently mailed to all Suffolk County addresses describing the program and how to obtain a permit. The stated purpose of the program is to reduce the cost of police response to false alarms. After April 1, 2016, policy response to a false alarm will result in a fine. This fine is waived for those with a current permit. The permit costs residents $50 the first year and $25 in renewal years.
