LRCO Update

If you weren’t at the last civic meeting, you missed the following updates:

1. Ronkonkoma Hub update: Initial ground breaking is likely to commence in November, pushed back from this summer.
  • Tritec, the developer, does not plan to include Section 8 housing at the HUB.
  • The State budget included funding for commuter parking structures which will replace the parking north of the tracks. This is of critical importance to the project
  • The civic will form a committee to make sure Tritec follows through on their commitments to the community.

2. The next LRCO general meeting is scheduled for May 12. We’ll discuss the Land Use Plan and residential building permit requirements.

3. May 21 is the Great Brookhaven Cleanup Day. LRCO will participate with a clean-up effort at Lake Ronkonkoma. More details to follow.

4. The Lake Ronkonkoma Inter-municipal Organization (IO) had its first meeting recently. George Schramm and Dawn Hopkins, LRCO Board members, presented draft bylaws for consideration by the IO. This is an important step towards remaking the Lake into the community asset it once was and should be.

5. The Town Board passed a resolution sponsored by Councilman LaValle and co-sponsored by Councilwoman Cartwright last week requiring the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals to attend semiannual meetings with the Law Department. The Law Department will review land use plans and recent town code changes. The intent is to encourage these board to make decisions consistent with community interests. LRCO strongly supports this resolution.
