Stakeholders Meeting to discuss proposed changes to Suffolk County’s Sanitary Code, Construction Standards, and the upcoming Subwatersheds Wastewater Plan

In accordance with Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone's Reclaim Our Waters initiative and the Long Island Nitrogen Action Plan, Suffolk County is pursuing proactive measures to reduce nitrogen pollution of our waters. The county is currently testing several innovative alternative single-home wastewater treatment systems to evaluate their effectiveness at reducing the amount of nitrogen that leaches from typical wastewater systems that have been widely used in Suffolk County.

To accommodate the use of alternative-wastewater-treatment systems, changes are being proposed tothe Suffolk County Sanitary Code and Construction Standards. In concert with the proposed changes to the codes and standards, a Subwatersheds Wastewater Plan is being prepared that will provide recommendations for nitrogen load reduction goals and a recommended wastewater management strategy for all of the priority subwatersheds of Suffolk County. The stakeholders meeting will present the proposed changes to the Suffolk County Sanitary Code and Construction Standards and will present the proposed scope of work for the Suffolk County Subwatersheds Wastewater Plan.
